How much does garden clearance cost in Wirral?

If your garden has got a bit out of hand, one of the first questions is usually pretty simple: how much is it actually going to cost to sort?

The slightly annoying answer is that garden clearance can vary quite a lot depending on what we're walking into. A small garden that needs cutting back and clearing is very different from a garden that hasn't been touched for two years, has brambles taking over the fence and enough waste to fill a van.

What affects the price of a garden clearance?

There are five things that usually make the biggest difference.

   How overgrown the garden is

   There is a big difference between a general tidy-up and trying to find the path underneath six months of growth. Long grass, brambles, heavily overgrown borders and shrubs that need cutting back all add labour and waste.

   How much needs taking away

   A garden can look relatively small and still produce an unbelievable amount of waste once everything is cut back. Current UK pricing data shows that waste volume and weight are among the biggest factors in garden-clearance costs.

   Access

   Can we walk straight from the garden to the van? Or are we carrying everything through a terraced house, down steps or along a narrow side passage? Access can make a surprisingly big difference to how long a clearance takes.

   What's actually in there

   Grass, weeds and hedge cuttings are one thing. Soil, rubble, old furniture, broken sheds and other non-green waste are different and may require separate disposal. If there is anything unusual in the garden, just show us when you send the photos.

   How many people are needed

   Some jobs make sense for one person. Others are far quicker and more economical with two people working through the garden together.

Does the price include taking the waste away?

Don't assume it does. Some gardeners leave green waste for the homeowner to deal with, while others include removal or price it separately. That distinction matters.

Wirral Council does offer a fortnightly domestic brown-bin garden waste service, currently priced at £63.50 for one bin for the 2026–27 subscription period, but everything must fit inside the bin with the lid closed. That's useful for normal household garden waste — less useful when you've just cleared an overgrown garden.

Do you need someone to visit before giving you a price?

Not always. In fact, for plenty of garden clearances, good photos are enough to get started.

Take a few wide photos showing the whole garden, then one or two showing anything particularly overgrown or awkward. Current industry guidance also recommends sending clear photographs when getting an overgrown garden priced, because it helps the contractor understand the labour, waste and equipment involved.
